9th Grade Success
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is for students who want support and guidance on the skills necessary for college. The AVID curriculum focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR). Students learn strategies that enhance academic success: Note-taking, outlining, writing, speaking, reading, test-taking strategies, and self-awareness. AVID’s focus on organization requires students to update their planners daily and keep an organized binder. AVID students have opportunities to attend college field trips and learn about a variety of career opportunities from professionals. The course also includes college motivational activities and preparation for the PSAT & SAT.

AVID 12 Higher Ed. and Career Success
In this new diploma requirement, starting with the class of 2027, students will explore how their personal strengths, aptitudes, interests, and values connect with future career paths, and practice self-advocacy. They will understand the diverse range of career pathways and postsecondary opportunities, and be prepared for the workforce. Students will complete a resume and My Plan that includes a detailed postsecondary plan.
AVID 12 Personal Finance
In this new diploma requirement, starting with the class of 2027, students will understand credit and debt, banking, investing, saving, and repayment. They will practice strategies for creating a budget, tracking and modifying spending patterns, including exploring common costs associated with rentals and home ownership. Students will understand personal income and taxes and learn how to maintain financial well-being by making informed consumer decisions.
