Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs)What is a CRLE?

CRLE Reflection Form Link

Career-Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs) are structured educational experiences that connect learning to the world beyond the classroom. PPS requires students to write reflections about two CRLEs, but most students complete many throughout their four years of high school.

Examples of CRLEs include:

  • Part-Time Jobs
  • Community Service Project/Volunteering (with a career focus)
  • School-based Career Activity/Club with an occupational focus (e.g. Mock Trial, Speech & Debate, Constitution Team, Cardinal Publications, theater production, FBLA, Robotics, Computer Game Design, etc)
  • Career-themed Lecture, Field Trip, or Guest Speaker
    • Any speaker or field trip where you learn about what people do in their jobs or talk about skills needed to do certain work
    • Many CTE (Career Technical Education) and AVID teachers have guest speakers to talk about the related industries.
  • One-on-one Information Interview/Job Shadow (with a non-family member): Consider creating your own half-day job shadow or 30-minute information interview to learn about an occupation or organization. Start by asking friends, family, teachers, neighbors, etc. who they might know that works in your career field or organization of interest. Most people are happy to spend time with students sharing what they do--all you have to do is ask!
    • To prepare for a job shadow/informational interview: Look up your host's occupation in Oregon CIS and study topics like Specific Work Activities, Preparation and Job Outlook. Visit the organization's website to better understand their services or products. Consult this list of questions and add your own. Consider what you will wear to fit into the workplace. Plan your trip, calculating when to leave home or school to be on time. Will you need to allow extra time to find parking? Check out TriMet's TripPlanner  tools to help you make streetcar, bus or MAX connections.
  • Regional Career Fairs
  • Internships (structured work + learning experience)
  • Industry-sponsored Career Day (one day events)
Industry-sponsored Career Mentor Program or Career Exploration Program (longer-term commitment)

  • CRLE Reflection Assignments

    Submit CRLE Reflection Here

Students must submit 2 CRLE reflections to fulfill the Personalized Learning Requirements (PLRs) needed for graduation. Once the well-written CRLE reflection has been approved, it's posted on StudentVue, under "Student Course History."

Other PLRs include a Resume and the My Plan Project.  Jefferson students complete these requirements in AVID classes.

Additional information about PPS District/Certificate Options, Essential Skills and PLRs can be found on PPS District pages.
